Lights, Camera, Action

Registration opens March 1st, 2024 for the Museum’s twenty-ninth annual “Blast from the Past” summer history camp series. Registration is open for campers ages 6-12 interested in taking an adventure through time to learn about film, photography, motion pictures, and action taken by individuals in history to make a difference.

This year’s theme, “Lights, Camera, Action” is inspired by the exhibition Evolution of a Revolution, a multi-media installation created by Surreal Box Cinema that will be on display at the Museum May 18th, 2024 - August 25th, 2024. Museum staff, visiting artists, and other special guests will lead participants through a series of activities focused on optical toys and early forms of entertainment that led to the art of making movies. In addition to traditional pastimes and tours offered at Blast from the Past, campers will engage in photography, lighting, set design, prop making, and small film projects that will focus on the heroic acts of brave people from the past or their own revolutionary ideas for positive change in the present.

Blast from the Past will be offered for two 1-week sessions at the end of June. Dates are June 17th - 21st, and then again June 24th - 28th. Camper drop off is from 8:00 AM-8:30 AM, with pick up from 3:00 PM-3:30 PM. Campers will need to bring a bag lunch. Snacks and drinks will be provided daily. Advanced, paid registration is required and reservations are taken on a first come, first paid basis. The admission fee is $125 for West Baton Rouge Parish residents and/or members of the West Baton Rouge Historical Association, and $150 for all other participants. For more information, please contact the Museum.
