Ethel Claiborne Dameron Lecture Series

  • Location: Brick Gallery
  • Date: October 29th, 2023
  • Time: 2:00 PM
  • Admission: FREE

The West Baton Rouge Historical Association is pleased to host its annual Ethel Claiborne Dameron Lecture Series on Sunday, Ocotober 29th, at 2:00 PM. This year’s event will feature guest speaker, Wendy Rodrigue, widow of the late artist George Rodrigue. Join Wendy as she explores the artist’s commitment to mirroring his feelings on canvas and digitally on his computer, particularly after his cancer diagnosis.

Wendy Rodrigue on George Rodrigue: Reflections of Love will take place at the West Baton Rouge Museum and will accompany the current exhibition, The River is the Road: Paintings by George Rodrigue. A reception hosted by the WBR HA’s Hospitality Committee will follow the presentation.

For this all-new presentation, Wendy will supplement artworks in the current WBRM exhibition with six additional pieces shared from her private collection.  Using chrome, transparency, and other techniques, these unique pieces not only reflect George Rodrigue’s presence and emotions, but also those of the viewer.  In this way, Rodrigue invites everyone to participate in his imaginary, expressive world.

The Ethel Claiborne Dameron Lecture Series is FREE and open to the public. This event is offered annually in memory of West Baton Rouge Historical Association and West Baton Rouge Museum founder, Ethel Claiborne Dameron affectionately known as “Puffy.”
